Reading Time: 2 minutes

After a long absence I finally got out on a Sunday run. The weather was not bad as I left Bunbury and cycled to Hartford with Chris Latter and I thought the summer bike and shorts was the right choice. As usual these days there was a good turnout and the long run to Chirk had no leader so I volunteered to take the fast/long group.

We went out through Whitegate and met Jed, in what looked like a formula one car with no wheels at the cross roads. We pottered on towards Oulton Park and once the road started to go a bit downhill Jed came past us all like a formula one car with his little yellow pennant straining in the slipstream. It didn’t last for long, at the next junction he bade us farewell just as I was about to take him up the hill by Knockerbrook. That would have sorted him out, he is OK on flat earth society rides!

We pressed on towards Beeston, with some pressing on more than necessary. I soon put a stop to this foolishness by letting the culprits take a few wrong turns, that soon slows them down when they have to start playing catchup.

On towards Tilston and the gathering clouds, always a bad sign when you can’t see the Welsh hills, it means it is raining. If you can see the hills it means it is going to rain! Sure enough the heavens began to open, capes were donned and talk turned away from Chirk and more towards Holt! The roads soon became sodden much like us and we all voted to go to Holt instead as most people were getting pretty cold.
Fortunately we arrived before the lunchtime curfew for cyclists and were able to order food and drink to warm us up. While we sat troughing the weather improved and when we left the sun was shining, but it was still very cold in soaking wet kit.
Everyone voted with their wheels and we headed straight back via Tattenhall and Beeston. I made my usual farewells at Beeston along with Chris Latter and we headed home for a hot bath, (not together!).
Hope you all got home safely and thanks for your company.
