From Gary’s under 7s joke book: I rang NHS advice yesterday because the guy in the desk next to me at work had just come back from Mexico, and I was worried about swine flu – but all I got on the line was crackling. As for my colleague, he’s come out in rashers.

For all this and more, come and join a WVCC clubrun! Today we all rode out together – in good weather – to Saighton, where we stood and watched the LVRC road race with Kevan, Graham, Dave and Richard M representing WVCC – they all seemed to be doing fine when we saw them and I hope they appreciated our noisy support. Then we split and I ended up with a small fast group, with John, Keith and then Craig leading us at a good pace through Holt and Chester and then up to Two Mills – not sure who won the cafe sprint. We rode back together initially and I made the mistake of getting on the front with Jed: the trouble with Jed is that he glides along chatting without any effort whilst I struggle to keep up with him, let alone maintain what is usually a challenging and off beat conversation! Anyway unfortunately I got dropped just before we started the race through Delamere, so I struggled to keep up the pace on my own, till a tall dark handsome stranger picked me up (so to speak). He was riding back to Newcastle but was nevertheless keeping up an impressive pace. We rode together back to Weaverham where we met Paul and Jan who were making their own way back – and so home (I should clarify, without the stranger!).
