While some of us were enjoying the Llandegla trails Kevan and Eleanor were giving it everything to enhance their strong showing in the North West Cyclo Cross league at St Helens. Thanks to Matt Edwards for the pictures. You can find out more at http://www.nwcca.org.uk/ our own event was the first counter in this season’s league.
There are events most weekends and mountainbikes can be used. I might have a crack at the Macc Wheelers Supercross on 27 Dec to burn off some of that turkey and Christmas pudd.
Hi Kevin, Elanor, everyone else,
Are you doing the race this weekend?
Thanks ross
My gosh Nick that is an awful photo and it will put everyone off the idea of cyclo cross. I must make sure I smile next time I see a photographer! Believe it or not I was enjoying myself!
Ross yes we are doing both races, one on Saturday and one on Sunday, can't remember where they are but they're on the NW cyclo cross league website. Do you want a lift?
Ross sorry we meant to ring you – did you want a lift today? Do you want a lift tomorrow?
Just come back from today's cyclo cross near Blackburn – we took our bikes for a run (OK slow jog) around a park for an hour, we could only ride 15% of the course cos the rest was too muddy and leafy, which created a nice mulch which in turn stopped our wheels going round. We're promised that tomorrow's ride in Bolton will be drier and faster so let's see. Mmmm. Two hours driving, one hour's muddy running in the cold and wet, we must be mad. Funny though I quite enjoyed it (Kev says he didn't!)
Sorry El, hope you agree that this picture is a bit more flattering -although they say the camera doesn't lie?!
Hope you all had a good race at Horwich – I bet it was muddy! I went round the Forest for a couple of hours and got covered in it.
Better luck for tomorrow then and thanks for lettinhg us know how you got on. Did you improve against the usual competitors?
I don't think I have ever enjoyed an hour with my bike less than Saturday's race. Not helped by a very poor performance – I think I was third woman and way behind my usual crowd, didn't even get near lapping El.
Much better today though, equally muddy just gloopy rideable mud so I think I did better. Poor old El crashed early on and didn't realise her front brake was rubbing against the tyre, she soldiered on but found it very hard. When I came to wash the bike at the end the wheel would barely turn. Having decided never to ride another cross race after Saturday I'll give it another go next week, come and join us its great fun!
I'd love to Kev, but I'm committed to lead the club Delamere ride! Besides, when I go for a run in the mud I don't usually bother taking the bike. There are some good pictures of the Horwich event on the BC website flicker link – certainly looks muddy.
Hi Guys,
Sorry, missed the messages below, sounds like it was fun!!! i guess you dont have my new mobile number (07884177313)and I dont have either of yours since my last phone died.
p.s. saturday i spent watching rugby on the turbo, sprint starts on the throw in at the line out and stops when the ball next goes dead!!!!
Got your number Ross. Turbo training sounds tough on that basis, although very original – I'm a pyramid person myself. See you at Delamere Saturday unless you go crossing.
