What a great ride. A large-ish group set off on the long run to Loggerheads and enjoyed an entirely straightforward ride, with, as for last week, not one mechanical or problem. We rode out at a sensible but brisk pace (thanks Jim our navigator!) through Waverton and Chester, up through Higher Kinnerton, up the Treuddyn climb (we ended up splitting up into a few groups and I gather Iain was first up, contending the honours with Tim R and Geoff), then right on a fabulous undulating road, which ultimately descended to the Ruthin – Mold road which led us to the cafe. We’d ridden out into a pretty significant headwind but that didn’t bother me too much as I was riding closely on others’ wheels! And so back home, with a fast descent down from the Rainbow, and we all enjoyed the tailwind back home, this time on the direct route round Mold to Higher Kinnerton and home via Chester, the A556 and the forest – where speeds picked up considerably and I was very grateful for the company of Ewart and Paul in my little group. By the time we got home it was just getting a bit dark, and we’d clocked 80 miles and 16.2 mph, been out for 6 hours including lunch, and done 1200 metres of climbing: useful training for Llanberis. With Kev and me were Jim Duffy, Alan Kemp, Iain, three Pauls (!), Geoff, Tim, Ewart and Graham. We also picked up Elaine en route – she’d gone out for a quiet ride on her own and ended up joining us when we passed her at Crowton – she ended up coming with us for the whole day and rode really strongly, and I enjoyed some female company! (Carol, Heather etc we’re missing you!). John Conboy left us somewhere on the way out. Thanks everyone for a fab ride.
