We fielded seven WVCC riders in this event, Nick B, Tim R, Steve M, Paul H, Kev, me and our son David. It's a fabulous event, organised by Oswestry Rotary in the Berwyns, with friendly marshals out in force, and an excellent but challenging 22 mile hilly route. They set us off in groups and the idea was that Nick, Steve, David and I would set off ahead of Tim, Kev and Paul, so that Nick could get the faster riders filmed on his Go Pro..but as it happens, his Go Pro didn't work. Tim set off like the clappers, his legs spinning like he was in the start of a BMX race; and he'd shot past us slower riders before we'd even climbed the first ramp. He did amazingly: setting off in the tenth group, and then reeling every rider back other than two, who'd started long before him, and he won the event in 1hour 56 minutes. The rest of us had mixed fortunes. Paul was second WVCC rider in, with a time of 2 hours 13 minutes, Nick balanced and ground up the "steep hill with the narrow concrete strip bit" like he was an international gymnast, finishing not far behind Paul, Kev had a split tyre he couldn't fix so had to limp home, I came in second woman, in 2 hours 45 minutes, just two minutes short of the ladies' winner, Steve kept a good steady pace and enjoyed swimming in the thigh-deep puddles, and David struggled with a puncture and a mechanical....but we all enjoyed the craic and the beautiful route...at least in retrospect! We started in the rain and wind, and got VERY muddy, but the weather cleared as we rode, and once finished, we sat on the steps of the church hall eating our lunch and basking in the sunshine. An excellent event.

Yes it was a challenging day, but a very enjoyable ride. Well done Tim on being the fastest rider, you get a mention here http://www.borderlandrotary.co.uk/bikeride.php
