Llanberis 2012 – The Route

Hi Everyone

Hope you are all praying every night for good weather for the weekend.

I have had to go over to Ruthin today because we have had to move the cafe stop.

The cafe is now the CROWN HOUSE in WELL STREET I intend to go over to Ruthin again on Friday to put out some directional arrows to show the way but it is easy to find as it is in the main street half way up the hill.

There is space at the back of the cafe for bikes and cars, they are reserving spaces for four vehicles as well as the bikes but you can also park in the side street which is Wynnstay street.

I have arranged a fixed price of £6 each for soup, sandwiches ,cake, tea or coffee, anything else you will have to pay extra.

It seemed to work ok last year so we will give it a try this year both ways going and coming back.

Please find attached route and emergency numbers.

If you would like to leave your bags the night before at our house you are welcome to do so, but please don’t come before 8pm as we will be out until then.

Hope you all have a good weekend

 Regards.

Graham

Tatton Yule Yomp

Nick, I hope you don’t mind me taking over your blog this week?!
I think this must be a record – eight Weaver Valley cyclists (plus one son) representing WVCC in a 10k. In the picture are Julian and Elaine, Kev and me and our elder son David – unfortunately we couldn’t find Nick and Ann, nor Jane and Rob when we took the photo.
The run was round Tatton Park -despite being mostly flat, the drizzle meant that conditions were very muddy and slippy underfoot, until the last 1k which was on tarmac. It’s a lovely scenic course – at one stage we were watched rather warily by a huge herd of puzzled deer.
Our team did really well, with Kev this year (46.04) pipping an injured Nick (46.08) to the post, with them both coming in the top 60 in a field of 1000 (and 4th and 5th in the over 50 men). Julian did an excellent 50.41, Rob 53.11 and we girls all did well too.
Some interesting comparisons with cycling events: far more women as a percentage of the total – and a closed road for the last kilometre. The run was organised by Cheshire Hash House Harriers, of which Kevan and I are members of – now the commercial break – if anyone is interested in joining us on our runs on Tuesday nights, look up
http://www.cheshirehash.co.uk/cheshire/hashmain.htm – we run from a different Cheshire pub every Tuesday night at 7.45 and all standards from v. slow to v. fast are welcome, it’s a 10k off road trail run (which takes well over an hour) involving looking for checks, and that means we can keep everyone together. In the winter we use torches, in the summer we get out to some spectacular places which you’ll all know from your bikes, e.g. Rainow, Macc Forest etc. If you’re interesting in coming along, let us know!

An apology, Claire in Cycling Weekly and other miscellaneous items…

It appears not to have gone unnoticed, that since I’ve been in full employment again I’ve not been keeping the blog up to date: so I thought I should post an apology to regular fans (or otherwise) of this column, and provide at least a brief update on WVCC life as I’ve known it over the last few weeks…so here goes.

1. The main reason there have been so few updates is that there have been so few club runs – because we’ve all been marshalling etc. – what with our cyclo cross race, hill climb and BC road race in the last month, many of us have been busy judging, waving flags, making tea and standing getting cold on corners! All races went v. well and I think we should be really proud that WVCC can stage such excellent events. Having organised the road race myself for the first time this year, I can pay tribute to the strength and depth of WVCC expertise – there’s a fantastic team in the club who (luckily) know what they’re doing when it comes to race admin, judging, convoy driving, marshal organising, sign erection, refreshment preparation, risk assessments, radios/kit provision etc. etc. etc. Many thanks to everyone involved in organising and marshalling! I think we should consider setting up a Pro Tour team. Bags be Directeur Sportif.
2. Another reason why there have been so few updates is that I’ve been riding cyclo-cross races – Kev and I are trying to do the necessary 10 events to get a place in the North West league. It’s great fun and great training so if you fancy doing one yourself, come and join us.
3. Who saw Claire O’Brien in this week’s Cycling Weekly, on the cover and a massive picture of her inside, sporting her WVCC top! Well done Claire for a great ride and for promoting WVCC!
4. And of course we’ve had a track session which was called off because of paint fumes – Dave Fearon is now organising these so if you want to know more give him a ring or e mail him on Tel:01606 74577 Mob: 07989 382344 e-mail: nofearon@hotmail.com

Incidentally if I’m not riding the club runs on Sunday then please let your club mates know how you got on by sending a report to me on the.underhills@tesco.net. I’ll post it as soon as I get it.

A message from Claire…

Claire’s sent this message through for the blog…I know we’d all like to wish her well, I’m sure those miles with the Wrinklies will stand her in good stead!

Pls can you thank everyone on the Wednesday run for training me up for my L2P bike ride? Without their help, I would not have got as fit, learned new bike skills, and seen the miles pass by so easily and cheerfully! The Wrinklies runs have just got better and better! Secondly, could you please mention my just-giving page http://www.justgiving.com/claireobrien2 ? I have a target of raising £2000 for Leukaemia Research!
