Club 10 – 2-up – 25th April 2018

Wednesday saw the start of our popular club 10’s on the Lach Dennis course.  The weather was cool with showers scudding across the skies but fortunately skirting around the course on either side.  18 riders supported the event, some riding solo and others as pairs.  The winning pair was Steve Malkin & Paul Connor with a very respectable 25:58 to kick off the season.  Fastest ladies was taken by Laura Gray & Emily Martin less than 1 minute behind the men with a quick 26:43.  Fastest mixed pair was the Underhills demonstrating their recently earned Majorca form with a 28:45.

Quickest was our local pro Matt Knowell who retains close links with our club as a second claim member.  He turned up on his training bike with no tri-bars, training wheels and heavy legs from a 188km elite road race completed at weekend but still stopped the clock with a very impressive 21:52 on our modest course.  In second place was regular Matt Lovelady who now rides for the RAF CA. He was also FLYING on the night with a 24:10.

Next week is the practice 10 in which you can set you handicap for the season long handicap and scratch competitions.  This year we go back to best 5 rides rather than the best 7 we used last year.  So get your rides in but make sure you don’t miss the elusive “float night” which you can guarantee will happen the night you fail to turn up!  Also please ensure that I can read your name and that you fill out the “club” column on the sign on form as there were a few problems with this weeks’ sign on sheet.  This is very important as errors on the sign on sheet make a real mess of the points sheet and creates a lot of work to rectify, so your help would be appreciated.
