This was the view to Blencathra from the top of Skiddaw on Friday evening. I rode (and pushed) most of the way up with a Keswick resident called Paul who often does this after work – makes a blast round Delamere look a bit tame!
It was a great way to finish off a beautiful sunny day which I spent on the Altura trails at Whinlatter. More technical than the north Wales trails I thought, with uphill drop-offs(!) as a result of them felling the trees to clear the path, but leaving the roots which were big and slippy. Fantastic views of Derwent water and definately worth another visit.
Saturday met up with some “old” friends from The Tyneside Vagabonds at Keilder where we had two goes at the new red trails – Deadwater Fell and Lewisburn. The former being fairly technical in places and both much better second time around with plenty of flowing singletrack.
Nice to hear good things about the Altura Trail, I'm on the north Cumbrian coast working for a couple of days, so I'm going for a blast round there this afternoon on my way home!
Sounds like secret training for the Lee Quarry race to me. Watch out for those slippy roots and rocks.
Was nice and dry for me, but I reckon you'd nead proper soft compound tyres if you were riding it regularly in the wet. Nice trail, needs a couple of laps to fill 1/2 a day though.
Its a top trail for a blast round. The last desent to the car park on the cafe side is ace, although i did end up in a tree the last time i rode it.

Yes, I'd forgotten about that. It's fast and flowing and lots of little jumps. I bet the tree you ended up in was the one that you can see in the video on the website – luckily I remembered this. Ok, so I was probably going a lot slower than you too.
Keswick would be a good destination for a club weekend in the spring – any takers?

Assuming Llanberis to be last weekend in Feb, we could aim for 2-3 weekends later in mid March. Or 2-3 weeks earlier and use it as training for Llanberis.

We'd definitely be up for a weekend in the Lakes – let's decide a weekend soon though so I can plan my work rota round it (and Llanberis!).
